But you have to know where and when they work and what notes. Playing with musicians on the same level, they will pick up on this and play off what you are doing. Another thing is Pedal notes. You can 'Pedal' on the 5th of the key you are playing Blues in for example. Say its a Bb blues. You could pedal on F and it will completely change the tone of the tune.
